Pioneer Church

The pioneer church is the oldest remaining community building in Emery County. It is significant due to wood frame construction, sheathed in clapboard, and lined with adobe bricks. In 1980, it was placed on the National Register of Historic Places.

When properly restored, the building will once again be used for a Visitor Center, Community Center: dances, movies, plays, lectures, concerts, weddings, receptions, local art and other community activities.

FUN FACT

Emery Pioneer Church: Built in 1898-1901, this early Zion meetinghouse was used for school, church meetings and community gatherings. Later it was used as the town community center and Senior Center. Roller skating, movies and dances were held here until 2000.

The old church was dedicated by Apostle Rudgar Clawson on July 27, 1902.

The total cost for buliding this historic church was $8,000. 44 times lower than what it would cost today.
